Welcome Back!

August 2018

Dear New Fifth Grader,

The 2018-2019 school year is about to begin, and Martin Luther King School wants to welcome you to fifth grade!  My name is Mrs. Fusaro, and I will be your teacher in Room 13. I can’t wait to start our year together.

On Wednesday, September 5th, you, your family, your school, Mrs. Fonzetti, and I will team up to begin a very important and exciting year.  When you enter our classroom, you will be part of a learning community that values responsibility, independent thinking, and hard work.  Our class will explore many fascinating topics, like fantasy writing and Native American history.  You will be working with a science program that uses lots of hands-on experiments and activities.  You will also be performing skits, making presentations, working with fractions and decimals, and learning Latin, so get ready!  Our days will be filled with inquiry and problem-solving.  Your questions and ideas will help to drive our discussions and challenge our thinking.  I am counting on you to take responsibility for your learning and behavior.

To help you get ready for the first day of school, here is a list of materials you will need for 5th grade:

  • Refer to the 5th grade general supply list on the school website

Additional items needed specifically for our classroom

  • 3  Folders labeled Science/Social Studies, Homework, & Math
  • a few pens for correcting classwork

Please remember supplies should be refilled as needed throughout the school year.

Back-to-school time is filled with so many emotions.  You may be anxious, excited, or nervous.  Those feelings are all normal!  Stay positive and remember that I am here to support you, motivate you, and help you achieve more than ever before.  Enjoy the rest of your summer and be ready to share your favorite summer experiences with me in September! J

Sincerely,

Mrs. Fusaro
