Character Changes
Throughout a story, the main character usually changes by learning or realizing something new based on his/her experiences.  Throughout the story, True Son resists the changes his white family try to impose.  Yet, when he is reunited with Half Arrow the reader becomes aware that True Son has indeed changed a bit.  What evidence does the author provide to show the reader that True Son has adapted to his white family's values and ideas?  What confuses True Son as he tries to readjust to his Indian family and their beliefs?

When True Son first reunites with his own family, he doesn't listen to his parents who are trying to change him back. However, when he finds Half Arrow, he instantly changes himself and the way he acts. After speaking a little English, he automatically adapted to the language. His confusion is that now he is acting like a white, he starts judging Indian American culture.

When Half Arrow meets up with True Son aka Johnny we know that True Son has changed a lot. He starts to speak English and he is changing into the whites belief. That stealing is bad and other rituals.

After True Son is taken back to his white parents, he attempts to resist changing his indian ways of life. However, when True Son reunites with Half Arrow, he is different. In the text, it was stated that True Son sounded like a white trying to speak Delaware. This proves that after speaking a little bit of English, True Son's voice changed. Later, True Son and Half Arrow stumble across a white camp, Half Arrow insists that they steal a boat to go down the river to the Tuscarawas. True Son is hesitant, saying that stealing is wrong. Half Arrow then says that stealing back what the whites took from them is not wrong. Both are right, but if Half Arrow was a white himself, he would say that stealing the boat would be wrong. This proves that True Son is now feeling emotions of right and wrong the way the whites do.

True Son has adapted to his white family's values and ideas because the fact that his white family is telling True Son to do something is constricting him and making taming him as the book says in page 111. What confuses him is that now that he is being influenced by Whites instead of Indians and he is judging the way Indians act and their beliefs.

I agree Aditya but Half Arrow is also hesitant because later after that part he sees the white camp called the great fort of the Plantscheman. True Son (Johnny) is the right person to be hesitant about stealing. Its wrong but Half Arrow has a point were he says: "It's not stealing if you are taking back what the whites stole from the poor indians that lived here."

When True Son is reunited with Half Arrow, we find out that True Son has changed slightly. An example of the author showing us this is that when True Son sees Half Arrow, he talks in Delaware, but Half Arrow says that he sounds like a white trying to speak in Delaware. Also, when True Son and Half Arrow are talking about "stealing" the boat, True Son is hesitant. When True Son tries to readjust to the Indian beliefs, he gets confused. He thought that white children are not the Indian enemies. It turns out that that is not true.
