Dear Parents,

Welcome to the fourth grade!  I am excited to have your child in this classroom!  I have been working very hard planning and preparing for this year, and I expect it will be an enriching experience for everyone! My name is Mrs. Paust and I will be your Homeroom, Literacy and Social Studies teacher in Room 31.  Mrs. Hutchinson in Room 30 will teach Math and Science.

The first day of school will be Wednesday, September 4th. This is a full day so please remember your lunch or lunch money. Our year will begin by getting acquainted with each other and our classroom.  I have implemented a unique discipline plan, incentive system, and highly organized management system for our classroom.  You will be informed of the details shortly.  I believe that my students should play a major part in classroom decisions and management.  Therefore, responsibility and organization will be practiced daily.

A list of supplies you may need for 4th grade is posted on the Martin Luther King School web site.

While I fully accept my responsibility to teach your child to the best of my ability, I believe parents should play an active part in their child’s education.  You may do this by reviewing homework daily with your child and by examining class work that will be coming home.  Students can best prepare for their 4th grade year by reading regularly and practicing their math facts. I will be grateful for your support and encouragement.

I feel fortunate to be a part of your child’s education at Martin Luther King School.  I know it will be an incredibly fantastic learning experience for both the students and myself.  I look forward to meeting you and to establishing a wonderful partnership with you this year.

Parents: Please check home activities every night and review reading logs with your child.

Please ask your child to tell you a little bit about what they are reading each day as they complete their Reading Log. Also, please inquire about what they are learning about in Social Studies. I have created detailed Study Guides with picture clues, maps, charts and other features to help with comprehension. Thank you for your support!

Homework Reminder:
Students will receive a reading log each week and 20 minutes of reading time everyday is expected. Language Arts homework for the week will be sent home on Monday and will be due on Friday. Please review and reinforce home activities with your child.
